Dr Joan Chamberlain

Dr Joan Chamberlain

I’m Dr Joan Chamberlain, and I’ve been a GP in Central Queensland for over 35 years. I was born and raised in Moura, a small rural mining town, and studied medicine at the University of Queensland. Staying connected to this region and its people has always been important to me.

I’m passionate about primary health care and still love general practice after all these years. What I find most rewarding is the opportunity to care for whole families — sometimes across multiple generations. I have a special interest in women’s health, ageing well, and travel medicine, and I enjoy working alongside patients to help them live their healthiest, most fulfilling lives.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my five adult children and growing number of grandchildren. I also enjoy cooking, sewing, and singing whenever I get the chance. I believe that supporting families in our community helps create a healthier, more connected world for the generations to come.

Dr Bhavesh Dhamsania

Dr Bhavesh Dhamsania

I was born and brought up in India and moved to Australia in 2007.  I worked in Emergency and Anaesthesia before I moved to Australia.  Being sick of unpredictable weather and struggles in Melbourne, I moved to Rockhampton in 2009.  I have been working in the Rockhampton Emergency department since then.  I decided to become a GP because I like looking after patients over a long term, providing continuity BUT I also like the thrill of Emergency Department.

I have completed various studies – diploma in child health, fellowship in rural and remote medicine, diploma in dermatology, certificate in advanced skin surgery and various emergency courses.

I am a father to 2 children – my son born in 2008 and my daughter born in 2015.  My wife is busy looking after our family, our 2 children and sometimes me as the biggest kid of them all. I have been happily married for more than 10 years.

My interests include emergency medicine and chronic disease management like asthma, diabetes, general skin conditions and skin cancer.  I like to manage complex problems.  I don’t mind seeing acute emergencies here locally.  I believe in disease prevention especially in certain population groups including Indigenous Peoples.

My aim is to provide the best medical service to the Gracemere Population.

Dr John Maitland

Dr John Maitland

I was born in England and trained at Newcastle upon Tyne University, one of the UK’s leading medical schools. After moving to Australia many years ago, I made Central Queensland my home and have worked as a GP in Rockhampton and Gracemere for over two decades.

While I enjoy the full scope of general practice, I have a particular interest in skin conditions and have spent time assisting a specialist in general dermatology at Rockhampton Hospital. Although the role of the GP has evolved over the years, I still see myself as a Family Doctor at heart—someone who values long-term relationships with patients and their families.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy trying to keep my roses alive and dabbling in watercolour painting. As a retired Royal Navy Reserve Medical Officer, I also take an active role in supporting veterans, which remains close to my heart.

Dr. John Maitland RD* MB BS (UK) Dip.Derm. FRACGP.

Dr Charlind Dindial

I’m Dr. Charlind Dinidial, a General Practitioner based in Rockhampton, working at Gracemenre Medical and TRUE Reproductive and Sexual Health. I have a particular interest in chronic disease management and women’s health, and I’m passionate about providing care that is both evidence-based and deeply patient-centred.

I graduated from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, in 1998, and later specialised in Anaesthesia in the UK. After several years of clinical practice abroad, I moved to Australia with my husband, a gynaecologist, and our three daughters.

Since settling in Rockhampton, I’ve grown to love the region and its lifestyle—especially the beautiful nearby coast of Yeppoon. I also enjoy teaching medical students, and I find it incredibly rewarding to contribute to the growth of the next generation of doctors.

Outside of medicine, I like to spend time outdoors, whether it’s walking, boating, or jet skiing—anything that lets me enjoy the natural beauty of Central Queensland.

Dr Vahid Afshar
